Does anyone have days in the week where they weigh more than others? I consistently weigh less on Saturday mornings. Sometimes by 2-3 pounds. For example, on Thursday I weighed in at 303.8. Yesterday (Saturday) morning, 301.4. The actual weights vary, of course, as I’ve been losing weight over the last 6 months. But the difference between the weights seems to be consistent and reproducible.

It is always possible that I am only noticing this on weeks where it is true, and I don’t notice “normal” Saturdays. So I am going to do something that I really don’t believe in: I am going to chart my daily weigh-ins. That’ll give me a feel for how my weight fluctuates during a given week, and I can aggregate that to see patterns over a number of weeks.

I put anything related to my views on today’s world on my Point of View blog, and personal information on my LiveJournal. But there’s been one topic that I love that I haven’t really had a place for: technology. I’m a computer geek. It is one of my defining characteristics. And yet I’ve had nowhere to write about computer-geeky stuff. ’til now, that is.

I have created another ‘blog (‘cuz lord knows I don’t have enough to keep me busy as it is). Biffster’s Computer Geek ‘Blog is now open!

You might’ve noticed the new tools that I’ve set up on the side bar. I wanted to add these in as inconspicuously as possible, but I also want to explain to my loyal readers what they are and why they are there. Starting from the top of the Tools section:

RSS Feed: Use this link if you want to add my journal entries to your news aggregator (ie AmphetaDesk, NewsDesk, TinderBox) or your website. This links to a standard RSS-compatible XML document. If you don’t know what that means, you don’t need to follow the link.

Get updates via email: This is for those of you who are tired of checking back here every week to see if I’ve updated the site or not. Click on this link to join our new email list. You will receive every new journal entry emailed to you the minute it is posted to this website. And fear not: I will never send you spam nor sell your email address.

Make a Donation: I am not looking to make any money with this journal. It is here for my personal use, and as a method of support for those of you who are also trying to lose weight. However, I do have to pay money to keep this website up and going. If you’d like to donate a buck or two to help defray some of these costs, click on this button. PayPal accepts donations, no matter how small. And I’ll forever appreciate your support.

Ads by Google: Also to help defray some of my costs, I’ve started running Google’s ads on my website. If you want to help me out, click on one of the ads. I get a small bit of revenue for every person who clicks on an ad.

Thanks for sticking on with me throughout the years. It’s been an exciting and often-frurstrating journey for me. I hope that everyone has been able to learn from my mistakes.

My poor journal. I have neglected it so. Two months without an update! And after I had just mentioned that I would be updating it on a more consistent pattern. I have fallen into such bad habits…

My pattern over the past few months has been to go to the Y, workout, feel wonderful, head to a computer and write about it, then not make it back to the Y for a month. So I end up with an entry every month or so saying, “I’m really motivated now! I’m going to be good, and I am going to post a lot!” And then, when I am not behaving as well as I thought I was going to, I feel like I can’t write more here, because I don’t want to admit that I am not as motivated as I thought. And that leads to a really bad (and unhealthy) circle.

I don’t know if I am about to repeat that cycle today. I fully intend to go to the Y and work out as soon as I can clock out (in about a half-hour). So is this entry just another celebratory post, not to be followed up on for another month or two?

I really do need to post here more often. Every day, if possible. One of the things that I really need is accountability. Right now, I can eat whatever I want because I am not accountable to anything. If I simply ignore that I am eating way too much, then I can do that and not feel bad. But I am feeling bad, and my health is deteriorating.

So I am setting a new goal right now. This is actually the same as the goal I set for my LiveJournal: two to three entries per week. I may not have much to say in them, but I am going to make myself follow through on them.

Because really, I have no other choice.

Weight: 326
Difference since last entry: -

Hello again, everyone. ‘Tis me again. Two weeks in a row: who woulda thunk it? Maybe that is why it snowed so much this weekend…

Anyway, before I really get started, I just want to let you know about an alternate way to keep track of my Weight Journal. If you are using an RSS aggregation program or service, you can use my new RSS feed. I give permission to anyone and everyone who wants to add notification of journal updates to their programs or web sites to use this new feed. The feed can be accessed at: http://weightjournal.com/feed/.

As for this week, things are going well. I have decided it is time to get back on track. And this time, I actually have some motivation behind me. I am planning to get back to a regular exercise schedule starting Wednesday. I haven’t decided if I am going to do mornings or evenings yet. I’d like to work out in the morning, but I am so bad at waking up early. I’ll probably end up doing evening workouts.

I am also going to start eating better. To get started, it’ll be easy to improve my diet. I just need to stop snacking! I have been having far too many goodies between meals. Those are going to go, and go quickly. I am going to make do with a lot of water and healthy snacks (carrots, hard-boiled eggs, cheese sticks) in place of the crap that I am eating now. Once I get the snacks taken care of, then I’ll tackle meals.

Life is often times a circle, dear readers. A person usually ends up going through the same things. I am, once again, at the start. it is time for me to start making my way around the circle. If I do it fast enough, I may just be able to break free!

- Miguelito

I know exactly what you are thinking: What the hell happened here? Well, it took me since July, but I finally managed to complete a complete re-write of WeightJournal. All of these pages are now XHTML-compliant. You should be able to view these pages on any type of device, whether that be a cell phone or the newest computer. The re-write included all of my old journals: for the first time since 1997, the journal pages will actually look correct in today’s browsers.

And so, here we are. WeightJournal is once again open and functioning. As always, my journal update schedule is not set in stone. My plan is post weekly journal updates. But anyone who’s read this journal for any length of time knows that what I plan to do and what I actually do can sometimes be very different beasts. So, for the beginning, expect a couple of updates a month. As I get back into the swing of things, the updates will become more consistent.

To you, my loyal readers, thank you very much for sticking with me on this journey. Thank you for sticking by me since 1997. I hope to keep you inspired, entertained, and amused for many years to come! Oh, and as always, feel free to drop me an email at miguelito@fierro.com.

Hello everyone! This is me, Miguelito, finally finished with my month of slacking off. [grin] I really had no idea that June was going to turn into the month that it did. I’ll be writing all about that once I get journal updates going on a consistent schedule again (check back here July 9th).

I just wanted to let everyone know that the web hosting switchover apparently went off without a hitch. If there were problems, no one has let me know about them! WeightJournal is now being hosted by EntryHost.com. The transition was made the evening of July 2nd. You should not notic any difference; this move was meant to be seamless.

You will be seeing a slight change in the coming weeks. The biggest change will be that we are changing our name. We will now be WeightJournal. There are numerous ways to get to us; weightjournal.org and weightjournal.net all get you right here. Instead of limiting our name to WeightJournal.com, the decision was made to drop the .com and focus on what we are: WeightJournal.

I’ll be back soon with regular updates. Thanks for sticking with us!

- Miguelito
