Wellness hour

I’ve been toying with the idea of trying to set aside one hour every day as a “wellness hour” (for lack of a better term). During this hour, I would:

  • Exercise, either walking on the treadmill or via DDR: Mario Mix
  • Journal
  • Meditate

Not necessarily in that order, of course, and spending more time on one activity or another on various nights, depending on how I feel. But these three activities would address the three areas of me: body, mind and spirit. And I need to spend time for all three.

The most important is definitely body. I need to exercise. This is getting to be critical. I’m way too heavy, and I’m not doing a consistent job of losing. Until I get into a good exercise routine, I’m not gonna lose weight. So I need to do whatever it takes to get myself moving.
Second most important is mind. I’ve been under a ton of stress, mostly due to work. And I haven’t done a good job of getting that stress out. I’ve actually been hiding from my journals, which means I’ve been hiding from my feelings. Spending time journalling forces me to face my feelings. Which helps relieve stress.

Spirit is more interesting. I’m a Daoist, and believe that it is possible to be in touch with Dao whenever and wherever. There’s no need to perform rituals or say prayers to get in touch with Dao. However, it is possible for every day life to become so distracting that I forget to listen to Dao. Meditation allows time to relax, unwind, get rid of the distractions. Medititation is a way to allow myself the time and the quiet to listen to Dao. and that’s always a good thing.

Right now, this is all hypothetical. It’s something that I’d like to do. Dunno if I will or not. I’ll post an update here soon.
